THE FIRST HARDES FAMILY REUNION - AUSTRALIA 1985

Extracts from Hardes Family History - October 1990

A re-union of the descendants of Thomas Hardes, who arrived "a Freeman" in Australia in 1823, was held at Finnan Park Grahamstown near Raymond Terrace on 30th October 1983. About 300 people attended the family re-union.

It was suggested at the family re-union to hold a re-union on every decade - next being 1990. It was also suggested to hold any branch family re-union on the fifth year of the decade.

On Sunday 27th October 1985, the descendants of William and Ann Hardes ( Maryland Hardes) held their re-union in the Assembly Hall of Wallsend High School. It wass to be held in " Jock'ys Paddock, Hardes Avenue Marylands, it was cold and wet ( reason for the the transfer to the High School).

The day was very successful, over 200 people attendimg.

Many thanks to the Working Committe who worked so hard to make the day a success.

A special thanks to Joy Mullen who inspired others to have a family re-union and who investigated, collected the information for the family tree.
